Welcome to Get Your Life In Gear

9 Feb

New and prospective clients (and folks who are just curious) often ask me, “What’s your process?”

Seems like a fair question. Many coaches use things like intake forms & assessment tests, and have a specific set of steps they take clients through. I don’t. Hence, the curiosity.

So, here’s the skinny…

Where I’ve Been and What I’ve Been Up To

21 Jun

Walk this way...

As I mentioned recently on the Facebook page, things have been a bit quiet around here as I’ve been building the site for my dating and relationship coaching practice.

If you’re interested in keeping up with my thoughts and events related to dating and relationships, wander over, check out the site, and subscribe to that mailing list.

I’m keeping the mailing lists for each site separate so I don’t inundate folks with information they aren’t interested in.

Thanks for your patience. And, I’ll see you on the other side!

How Owning Your Feelings Can Empower You

30 Apr

If one more person says, “I cried because I had no shoes until I saw a man who had no feet,” or anything remotely resembling that sentiment in my presence anytime soon, I’ll scream.

I swear. I will.

If they’re lucky, I’ll do so silently. If not…well…my friends and family may be hearing about me on the evening news. [Read More...]

5 Steps to Applying Your Fashion Savvy to Your Dating Life

2 Apr

Do these pants make my butt look big?

Dating would be more fun and result in more successful relationships if we approached selecting a date/mate the same way we approach selecting an outfit.

Think I’m nuts? Maybe.

But, Hear Me Out

14 Things My Dogs Taught Me About Managing Clients

20 Mar

Throughout my 18+ year corporate career I earned a reputation for having the ‘magic touch’ when it came to clients, especially the “difficult” ones. In fact, the CIO of one company asked me point-blank, “Who’d you piss off to get stuck with us?”

Much of my success has to do with understanding some specific dynamics of client behavior… which I learned from being a life-long dog owner.

Don’t Be A Fish Out Of Water

12 Mar

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” ~ Albert Einstein

If you’re anything like most of my clients, you read that quote and thought, “Right on!” Aaaannnddd, then turned right around and spent a great deal of time thinking about how to improve upon your ‘weaknesses’.

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Tossing My Hat Into The Ring

29 Feb

First of all, many thanks to Janet Slack, Entrepreneur Coach and Small Business Success Specialist, for running this contest. I don’t know Janet. But, this contest tells me two things about her:

  • She’s giving away a seat in Laurie’s upcoming Blog More, Stress Less program, which means she has a big heart. And,
  • She recognizes the value in Laurie Foley’s offering, which means she has great taste.

Thank you, Janet!

Why I’m Not Grateful For The Bad Things. And, Why That’s OK

5 Dec

I’m not a fan of ‘either/or’ thinking. I’m also not a fan of using the word ‘should’, especially when discussing feelings.

Word must have gotten out about my lack of fandom, because both concepts combined forces and came out swinging in recent conversations about whether or not I ‘should’ be grateful for the bad things I’ve experienced in my life. (SPOILER ALERT: I’m not.)

I’m sharing part of one of those conversations to help illustrate why I feel the way I do. [Read More...]

2011 Holiday Special: Choose To Serve. Pay It Forward.

16 Nov

I’ve been thinking a lot about my business lately. Asking myself questions entrepreneurs constantly ask themselves.

 Is my messaging right?

Does it clearly describe who I am and how I work?

Will my right people/ideal clients/tribe/community/audience know they’ve found me when they read my site?

Who are my right people/ideal clients/tribe/community/audience?

etc.

As important as those questions are, I realized this morning I’ve been asking myself the wrong questions. Well, maybe it’s more accurate to say I’ve forgotten to ask one very important question.

How Can I Best Serve Those I Want To Serve? [Read More...]

I am looking forward to learning more how to work on my business and not in my business.
